Planning your next move from the sun lounger
We are halfway through the summer and I imagine most of you are on holiday by now, or counting down the days. After the first half of the year many of you have had, you deserve it. I have spoken to so many of you this year who are doing more with less. Leaner teams, bigger workloads, and not enough hours in the day. I hope the next few weeks give you the chance to properly switch off.
For those of you we are already working through August, you know what is coming. September through to the new year is always when the job market picks up, and getting your career documents ready now means you are not scrambling when the right opportunity appears.
I have been thinking about this a lot over the past few months. The autumn period is always busy, and I want to make sure that when it arrives, everyone who needs support can get it. It is also why I have some news to share this month.
Jenny Byron joins Your Career Optimiser
I am delighted to introduce Jenny Byron, who is joining Your Career Optimiser.
I have got to know Jenny over the years through the British Association of CV Writers. During our collaborative discussions, Jenny has always been someone who stands out. The stories Jenny shares about working with people, and the care and attention to detail that comes through every time, told me everything I needed to know.
Jenny is a certified member of the BACVW with over 15 years of experience in HR and recruitment. Before setting up as a CV writer, Jenny spent over thirteen years in the Human Resources department at the University of Glasgow, rising from support assistant through to HR Adviser, working across organisational change, restructures, and people management projects. During that time, Jenny also completed a Master's degree in Human Resource Management at the University of Strathclyde.
That background means that when Jenny sits down with someone who is going through a career transition or returning to work after a break, Jenny understands what hiring managers and recruiters are looking for because Jenny has been on that side of the table. Jenny brings an attention to detail that helps people position themselves in a way that genuinely stands out.
As a military spouse, Jenny moved from Scotland to Pennsylvania in 2018 for a three-year overseas posting. During that time, Jenny rediscovered a love of writing, blogging about the experience and contributing to publications in both the US and the UK. When Jenny returned, setting up a CV writing business felt like the natural next step, bringing together the writing and the HR background into work that Jenny clearly loves doing.
